Stonewall School Champion Award

We are delighted to announce that we have received the Stonewall School and College Champion Gold Award.

This is in recognition of our commitment and work towards promoting equality and celebrating diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.

To have received this award at the highest level is a significant achievement for the Academy and reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering kindness.

In order to gain the gold award we were judged against six areas of best practice, which were; policies, curriculum, staff, support for LGBT students, whole school approaches and student voice.

Each area was scored and feedback provided. In total a school must score 54 marks out of 70 to receive the gold award. We scored 64, including full marks in four of the six areas of best practice

The comments received from Stonewall in its feedback to the Academy included:

"So fantastic to see how widely and proactively you share information and resources with other schools"

"young people in your setting feel they are valued members of the local community"

"your training shows clear evidence that you have a whole-school approach to supporting LGBTQ+ children and young people"

"the ways your school environment functions, are focused on supporting students' individual needs and helping classes form positive social dynamics"

"It's fantastic that your pupils feel confident enough to be visible role models within the local community!
That must be really inspiring for other pupils at the school."

The Academy's work in supporting LGBTQ+ students began through a student led enrichment activity and has seen us become the first lead school for Suffolk Pride , feature on local news programmes for the high quality of support offered and receive the Diana Award for Anti-bullying as a result of our Enclude group and student ambassadors. As a project was built on student voice, we are delighted to see the impact it has had and this award recognises the culture of kindness and respect we seek to foster for all students.
